Crusty Hot Biscuits (From “Family Journal's Country Cookbook”)

2-1/4 cup flour

4 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp cream of tarter

1/2 tsp salt

2 tblsp sugar

1/3 cup shortening or butter

2/3 cup milk

1 egg

Sift dry ingredients. Cut lard into mix to make coarse crumbs.  Add milk, then the egg.  Mix with a fork around the bowl.  Knead on floured surface and pat to 1/2" thickness. Cut with 2" cutter.  Pat milk on tops with your finger or a brush and bake at 450F for 10-12 minutes....Enjoy
