High Island is an unincorporated community located at the East end of Galveston County on the Bolivar Peninsula. The town is one mile from the beachfront, one mile from the Intracoastal Waterway at State Hwy 124 just North of State Highway 87. In 2008 Hurricane Ike almost wiped out the Bolivar Peninsula and did change things from what you see here. |

Parking on the beach is allowed (60 miles of beach. Parking permit required $10 in Galveston County. The less traveled area is between High Island & Gilchrist (8 miles West). Parking on sand is always a challenge so take care..soft sand, high water, wind and sun abound. |

If you are in the area stop by the "Craft Shop" and take a real Texas tradition with you. |
Rollover Pass is a "fish pass" between East Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and is one of the hottest salt water fishing spots anywhere along the coast for 60 miles in either direction. Fishing is free but for hookups visit one of the many RV Parks at the cut or the nearby area.
